Intertwined Typeface, Media Specific

This typeface was designed as a project to explore the relationships between digital (illustrator & laser cutter) and hand craft (letterpress) design processes. The type was designed for a poster as part of a round table discussion at a NCSU Design Symposium. I then became very interested in ways of creating a type family other than modifications in weight and italics/oblique.

This typeface is designed as a family to respond to the mode of reproduction. Each typeface within the family is design to leverage a quality that could only occur in the mode of reproduction it was designed for.

For example, the offset printing version is designed with such detail that it will produce moire patterns and create overlapping colors that are affected by the type of press, paper, and ink consistency used to print. The letterpress version has a variety of edge types to create different debossing lines in the paper it is printed on.
